A few weeks ago, I put the verses listed below on my office wall to see them every day. Multiple times a day, at that. For they better express the desires of my soul and prayers from my heart than any words I could think, write, or say.
These verses make me stop and consider this truth: Almighty Sovereign God, Creator and Sustainer of all listens to my prayers even though He knows every word, idea, thought long before I do. There’s nothing new in life to Him knowing all yet He wants everything made new in my life in following His loving and gracious plan.
Better still, He wants and will do the same for you, no matter what you’ve done or said.
He loves you, even if this is your very first prayer or very first prayer in a very long time.
Jesus is the Way and the Way Maker through all. He is the Life and Life Everlasting for all. He is the Truth and the Truth Teller with all.
My favorite way to pray Scripture is to read it aloud so my heart and mind focus in praise to God with the words of the Psalmist.
Psalm 119:169-176 MSG
Let my cry come right into your presence, God;
provide me with the insight that comes only from your Word.
Give my request your personal attention,
rescue me on the terms of your promise.
Let praise cascade off my lips;
after all, you’ve taught me the truth about life!
And let your promises ring from my tongue;
every order you’ve given is right.
Put your hand out and steady me
since I’ve chosen to live by your counsel.
I’m homesick, God, for your salvation;
I love it when you show yourself!
Invigorate my soul so I can praise you well,
use your decrees to put iron in my soul.
And should I wander off like a lost sheep—seek me!
I’ll recognize the sound of your voice.
Another great Psalm rich with the truth of Almighty God and His care for us is Psalm chapter 8. And now is always a great time to look up those verses and read them aloud, too!
