from never enough to ever enough

Never enough.

I’ve never been enough in brains, body, beauty, or boldness. I’ve never been enough in abilities, achievements, activities, or actions. Yet it’s taken me over 50 years to realize that I wasn’t created to be enough.

Rather, I was made to return to and rely on God Who is always greater than any not enough.

In other words, God is the only ever enough.

And He’s the Only One Who will ever be enough.

Enough in power, purpose, peace, passion, providing, protecting, and Presence.

Enough in help, hope, heartening, healing, and having faith against fear.

Enough in the needs of today and the unknowns of tomorrow.

Enough in the sins of the past, regrets of the present, and expected shame of the future.

Enough in the promise of heaven and the putting away of hell.

Ever enough.

My perception of God’s providing is but a glimpse of the picture. Psalm 23:1 NIVvand other passages in Scripture tell me I lack nothing. 2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV and other passages in Scripture tell me [God’s] grace is sufficient.

Scientific discoveries are but tastes of God’s goodness in every particle of creation. From the strong nuclear force in every atom to the beyond understanding energy in every star. Philosophical breakthroughs are but tastes of God’s wisdom in every moment in discussion for ideas sought with love and truth. Even though these two pathways to knowledge might be quite different, ultimately, they both have one Source.

The God Who made us wants us to know Him.

To know Him in humility.

To worship Him in childlikeness.

To obey Him in devotion.

To honor Him in perseverance.

And to follow Him in faith.

Equally important, there’s nothing God can’t do, including giving us the desire to know Him. Even if we don’t recognize or acknowledge God as the driving force in learning more about creation or theology, He is. He has formed each of us with knowing Him as our missing part. That part which longs for more than we can see or control, more than we can understand or imagine. For even the best of us don’t have more than teeny-tiny thoughts not even scratching the surface of Who God is and what He can do.

The One Who brought creation from nothing is the same God Who wants me to know Him, not just personally, but intimately. David’s response in Psalm 8:4 HCSB what is man that You remember him, the son of man that You look after him? is a very good start to a proper education of knowing God as Creator and Christ, Sovereign and Savior, Almighty and All-Knowing, Worthy and Wondrous, and the One Who has done, is doing, and will do the miraculous. Not just the miraculous around us in nature but the miraculous within us in faith.

God is ever enough for every fear and lack of faith, for every doubt and lack of discipline, for every challenge and lack of courage.

He is ever enough.

And when we ask, He will give us a faith strong enough to stand amidst fear.

A belief bold enough to keep standing before fear.

A trust tenacious enough to walk forward against fear.

We can’t do any of this through our own strength. But all of this is possible in His.

Scripture tells us no weapon formed against us will stand and that nothing is impossible for God (Isaiah 54:17 CSB and Luke 1:37 CEB). Thus, our primary approach to any trial, temptation, or triumph should be this truth: victory comes only through the Christ alive in us.

Another vital truth is this: I’ll never be enough.

And that’s ok.

Because I know this: God is ever enough.

For every fear, every sin, every doubt, and every day.

For me and for you and for all of us, once for all (Romans 6:10 NIV).
