I had such a good morning sharing a bit of my story and a bunch of Scripture with some good folks just a little piece down the road.* This church was out in the country surrounded by farmland and with farmers and their wives sitting in its pews. We shared music, laughter, and stories together. We shared encouragement, ideas, and hope together, too.
Jesus was there with us just like He said He would be: For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them (Matthew 18:20 KJV). We sang hymns. We hugged necks. We asked about those who weren’t there from sickness or travel. We acknowledged needs spoken and unspoken.
We all had different stories, jobs, experiences, ages, and educational backgrounds. We were different in temporal things. But we were the same in the eternal things.
We understood we didn’t have to be the same in economics or education, marriage or material wealth, heritage or health, or faith or fears. We can differ in many ways yet be the same together in our hope of glory, Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:27 ESV). For as long as we have our hope fixed on Jesus, we have a togetherness stronger than any difference.
With all that in mind, we prayed.
And we prayed some more.
As we prayed, we listened.
And as we listened, we heard Jesus speak.
He spoke to hope to our hearts and strength to our souls in distinctive ways which come only from Jesus. Powerful ways known only by seeking Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life in Scripture used by the Holy Spirit to change our minds, hearts, and lives forever (John 14:6 ESV).
Thank You, Jesus, for the privilege of meeting these folks today. Thank You, Jesus, for coming and staying with all of us today at church. Thank You, Jesus, for sending us out into our communities with You as our hope for today, tomorrow, and every day yet to come.
I’d love to come to your church or group and share stories, Scripture, and finding hope in our Jesus Christ. It would be joy to come and pray, to listen and to sing together with you wherever you are and with whomever who comes along. Please contact me on the contact me page here on the blog or at drbethmadison@outlook.com for setting up a time for me to come to visit with you so we can all be together with our Jesus there in the midst, too.
*This isn’t a picture of the church I went to this morning. But it’s similar.
