Since I haven’t been able to walk in the woods or fields lately, I’ve started writing down my prayers at my desk at home. The act of writing helps me stay focused on what’s essential, the praying, instead of what’s distracting, the everything else. Afterwards, I discard the scrawled (sometimes, tear-stained) pages knowing that my Jesus heard the petitions, pleas, and praises sent up from my heart to His.
Yet today, I felt that I was supposed to share a little bit of what I’ve been praying for many of you living in the hard places of life where petitions are numerous, praises are breathed, pleas are repeated over and again, and promises are clung to with both hands.
I have to keep telling myself these truths before, during, and after my prayer times:
No one is overlooked or forgotten by our Jesus.
No one is unloved or ignored by our Jesus.
All of us are welcomed to come and find rest with our Jesus.
So, if you’re in a hard place today, I pray these words might encourage you to hold fast in hopeful faith while looking up at our Jesus praying for you at the right hand of our Good God (see Romans 8:34).
Dear Father God,
Thank You that You know all about my friends and their challenges. Thank You that You are there with my friends in their challenges at all times. Thank You that You have a good plan for good for my friends for all time. Thank You that goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives. Thank You that we will dwell in Your house forever because of Your gift of Jesus for us.
Please make a straight clear clean way for my friends today. Please reveal Your leading to them. Please help them (and me, too) to keep loving, listening, learning, and not leaning on our own understanding. Please guard them with unmovable, unbreakable, unshakable, unmistakable hedges of protection for their hearts, minds, and souls. Please garb them in Your armor of the helmet of salvation, breastplate of righteousness, belt of truth, shoes of the gospel of peace, shield of faith, and sword of the Spirit. Thank You that nothing is bigger, stronger, or more powerful than You. Thank You that nothing is impossible for You, including whatever any of us might face today. Thank You that You’ve already won victory over death, hell, grave, fear, pain, loss, shame, regret, guilt, and grief for all of us.
Please let nothing block my friends (and me) from living in Your light today. Please let nothing come between all of us hearing and proclaiming Your truth in love today. Please open wide our minds and mouths to receive wisdom and return praise to You today. Please help us to welcome and receive Your good plan for good in, through, and from us today.
Thank You that You make a way for us to run in the freedom of Your provision and path every day. Thank You that You take what man intended as evil and use it for good in the saving of many lives. Thank You that no one can close what You open nor open what You have closed. Please help us to rely on Your lavish love all the way down to the smallest particle of the soil of our souls.
in the strong Name of Jesus,
Amen.
