Here’s my take on a few instructions I remember hearing while growing up. I think they’re just as applicable (if not more so) for my life now than when I heard them many years ago as a little girl and hope you think so too as another excerpt from the children’s book I’m writing now.
“What to do and say”
Little one, what did your daddy say to do?
Love God and my neighbor, too
Trust God with a faith that’s true
Honor God with each day new
Little one, what would your daddy want you to say?
Be careful to always pray
Be faithful to God every day
Be sure to ask God for His way
Little one, what does your daddy want you to know?
Always ask God where to go
Never look back or in sin below
Be ready to listen and to grow
Little one, what does God give you every day?
Hope that helps in every way
Faith that holds without sway
Love that never leaves or turns away
Little one, what does God tell you for each day?
Learn what the Bible has to say
Make sure to always love and pray
Gather up eternal treasures, not straw and hay
Little one, what does God want you to do?
Listen closely for His voice in truth
Receive His peace for only it will soothe
Follow Him carefully as His joy makes you new
Another lesson I learned as a little girl was it’s always the right time to thank God for the gift of today. If you haven’t already stopped and thanked God for today, I’d encourage you to stop now and pray this verse back to Him – This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad today! (Psalm 119:24 ICB).
