Did you know October is Breast Cancer Awareness month?
I didn’t know this about October until Andy and I started walking through the wilderness of breast cancer a year ago. For those of you new to the blog, here’s a link to the post I wrote almost a year ago at the beginning of this unexpected opportunity of breast cancer https://soulscientistblog.com/2024/10/13/wilderness/
God has been so kind and gracious to teach me more about Him this past year. One of the most precious truths I’m learning is this – God wastes nothing.
And there’s nothing from which He can’t (or won’t) bring good. Only He can redeem anything and anyone for His glory to be made known and His people helped (see Romans 8:28).
There is no situation or suffering that can stop His steadfast love and faithfulness.
There is no pain or pressure too deep for His purpose to prevail.
There is no grief or gut-wrenching loss beyond the grasp of His grace and goodness.
And those promises aren’t just for a select few “perfect Christians”. They are here for all of us, just like God is here with His mercies made new for each of us (see Lamentations 3:22-23). (Or as my daddy used to say, “God’s mercies aren’t ever left over like meatloaf.”)
Like David in Psalm 34:8, Andy and I have tasted and seen that the Lord is good and blessed are those who take refuge in Him. God has been our Refuge and Strength, our Rock and our Redeemer this past year and all the years before that, too. He has provided what was needed, when it was needed and He will keep on doing the same.
Cancer didn’t take God by surprise. His provision of such a strong peace in the deepest parts of our souls was that firm place on which we stood a year ago (see Psalm 40:2).
And His peace is that firm foundation where we’re still standing today as the waters continue to rise and the winds continue to blow (see Matthew 7:24-27).
Cancer isn’t forever.
But our God is.
God’s the same yesterday, today, and forever in every bit of His power, grace, mercy, hope, and love (see Hebrews 13:8)! There’s nothing He can’t (or won’t) use to change me into being better able to see Him as the Unchanging One worthy of all honor, glory, power, majesty, and authority (see Matthew 6:9-13).
Cancer isn’t a punishment. It’s an opportunity to learn more about my Jesus.
Dear Friend,
If you have something in your life you never wanted or asked for, be assured of this truth. God can transform the unwanted into a cherished knowing of more of Him and His love, grace, and mercy far beyond understanding or imagining (see Ephesians 3:20-21).
Please come back next week for part 2 of this post – if you’re not already signed up to follow the blog with your email, please use the button the upper right corner to sign up. Please like and share this post with others mired in deep pits of overwhelming circumstances. There’s nowhere God’s light and love can’t reach – John 1:5 ESV The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.
Please know I don’t say any of this lightly or easily. Rather, I say all of this as one who’s holding on for dear life to the hem of the garment of my Jesus (see Matthew 9:20-22).
Thank you, dear friends, for praying for us. Please keep on because the prayers of a righteous person makes things happen (James 5:16b MSG).
And for those of you who’ve been asking for an update – I’ll have one for you next week when I’ll be one step closer to the close of this round of treatment.
