Psalm 136:6 CEB Give thanks to the one who shaped the earth on the water— God’s faithful love lasts forever.

Genesis 2:7 EASY Then the Lord God took some soil from the ground and he made a man. He breathed air into the nose of the man to give him life. So the man became alive.

Almighty God, the one who shaped the earth on the water, is the same One Who took some soil from the ground and…made a man. I see intention, purpose, and planning in all three of those actions. The shaping, taking, and making weren’t left to random events or only watched from a distance. They were deliberate applications of goodness for desired actions of growth.

Almighty God didn’t just desire or delegate the shaping, taking, and making. He didn’t just appoint or ask someone else to do the shaping, taking, and making. He didn’t just think or talk about the shaping, taking, and making. He Himself performed the shaping, taking, and making.

He did all the shaping, taking, and making in His faithful love [that] lasts forever those many years ago. And He’s still shaping, taking, and making today in His faithful love [that] lasts forever.

Whether it’s the soil under our feet or in our souls, Almighty God is shaping, taking, and making life from death, hope from despair, beauty from ashes, and joy from weeping. All He does is from His good plan for His good purpose of shaping, taking, and making us holy as He is holy. He shapes, takes, and makes our lives into seedbeds for sanctification. And through sanctification, He recreates us for His glory and the good of His people.

For in sanctification, Almighty God shapes, takes, and makes our souls into good soil to produce much good fruit which proclaims the Good News. He cultivates when we confess. He enriches when we exult. He prepares when we praise. He waters when we weep. None of these actions are without purpose or plan. All of these actions are done with His intent and involvement in our daily lives.

Think about that for a minute or more.

Almighty God Who created everything and sustains it still is the same One Who stoops to shape, take, and make us into the Image of His only beloved Son, Jesus Christ. He doesn’t do this out of obligation. He does it from His own lavish love for us. There’s nothing I can do to earn or achieve His choosing or His righteousness. He gave it freely at Calvary and will keep on giving it freely until the end of eternity. And He displays His faithful love every single day in His shaping, taking, and making of my life.

Almighty Father God,

Thank You for Your purposeful, active, and daily work of shaping, taking, and making. Thank You for Your patience with me and love for me that persists in the shaping, taking, and making. Please keep on keeping me close in with You. Please let my life be a good seedbed for a harvest of good fruit for Your kingdom. May You alone be glorified in every particle of the soil of my soul.

In the strong Name of Jesus,

Amen.
