Psalm 40:3 ICB “He put a new song in my mouth. It was a song of praise to our God. Many people will see this and worship him. Then they will trust the Lord.”

Growing up, our house was usually full of music. Be it the radio, TV, or live and in-person singing or humming (albeit off-key). Saturday night was the best because it meant a full turntable stacked high with records accompanied by popcorn and apples. There was even a little bit of music during my piano practice times (if you disregarded my numerous mistakes and off-key notes which couldn’t be credited to an out-of-tune piano). Even our garage was full of music on Saturday afternoons when we (tried to) sang along with the Metropolitan Opera accompanied by many clinks, clangs, and clamor from the chainsaw, tools, and broken-down lawnmowers.

Church music has always been a big part of my life. Be it Daddy’s early morning chorus in the shower every day to both worship services on Sundays to choir practice every Wednesday night to long youth and college bus trips every summer. Hymns and praise choruses quietly sung helped calm fussy babies (and me) during many a long night as a young mom or on church nursery duty. Just like they still do for me in those long days and nights of pain that won’t relent much less relinquish its’ chokehold on my body and mind. Those songs still fortify my prayers and petitions to my Good God to keep doing His good work in, on, and through me and many others for the now and the not-yet.

Having said all that, I hope that you might be encouraged today with a few worship songs I listen to often as a way to letting my Good God’s joy strengthen even the deepest particle of the soil of my soul.

I just bet you have other songs from which you can find hope and strength. If so, would you please share them with us in the comments section? Thank you!
