Happy Thanksgiving, friends!
You are one of the good gifts from our Good God for which I’m thankful for today and every day!
Psalm 18:35 CEB You’ve given me the shield of your salvation; your strong hand has supported me; your help has made me great.
We all like to talk about things being great, especially at this time of year. Be it families, festivities, or food – the bigger the better, the more the merrier. But how often do I stop to talk to the One Who’s made the greatness in all of these? How often do I realize that I had nothing to do with any of this as great? Our Good God alone has provided the harvest and the home and the feasting, family, and friends. None of this arises from my own power or position. All of it is received from the Almighty.
Anything I might give to someone has first been given to me. Yet how often do I stop to thank the One Who’s made both the gifts and the opportunity to grace others with the gifts? We are no more (and no less) than caretakers. And this role as caretakers is one with a steady responsibility for the gifts of soil and stars and suffering and salvation. We have been given much; we are responsible for much.
With all of that in mind, I want to slow and to stop from the race of more and more. To not worry about my to-do list or others’ expectations. To sit, sing, and savor my Good God in the gift of this moment. And there in the slowing and the stopping, I long to linger and to love my Lord. For when I do this, I’m reminded that nothing is more important than giving thanks and a trusting faith to my Good God, Creator and Sustainer of all, for all time and in all ways.
Revelation 7:12 DLNT Amen. The blessing and the glory and the wisdom and the thanksgiving and the honor and the power and the strength be to our God forever and ever, amen.
